I'm so delinquent, but I had such a ball at this show that I couldn't let it go. I HAD to write about it. First of all, let me tell you. My friends and I are DIE HARD New Edition Fans. So much so, that we all had to meet up at a city "in the middle" of where we live to watch it together. We live between New York and North Carolina, so we decided to watch the show in Upper Marlboro Maryland at the Showplace Arena.
First of all K-Ci and JoJo opened for them. Based on their prior experience, I didn't know what to expect. Well, I can say that they didn't sound as bad as these videos and things that i've been seeing on Youtube. K-Ci sounded like his normal self (a little whoa-whoa-whoa with a little strain), as did JoJo. It's the theatrics that tripped us out. K-Ci took over the stage and ran from end to end constantly thrusting his pelvis and groping himself. It was soo hilarious! Somehow "Freakin You" lyrics got changed to "Every eatin' day, every eatin' night. I wanna eat you girl, your body's so eatin tight." Jojo promptly reminded him that "I didn't say that." K-Ci also got on the shoulders of his bodyguard and went around the entire auditorium singing to his fans. I think that everyone was waiting to see if someone was going to fall down or mess up in some kind of way. Personally, I enjoyed their interaction and K-Ci was highly entertaining. I feel like I should call him Mr. Hailey because he's so nasty! Owwww!
Now for the main act. My girls and I went completely 7th grade and made 80s concert Tees and Buttons.
Here is our good friend Brown Sugas
This is mine after the concert. As you can see, they didn't hold up that well. But they served their purpose.
I don't have a picture of G-Peezy. Hers really was from back in the day. Did I mention that Mike (my favorite) said that he liked my T-shirt? Oh, my year is MADE now.
A couple of days before the show, we learned that Bobby had put out an official statement saying that he was pulling out of the tour because of Whitney Houstons death. We understood, but I cant say that we weren't a little heartbroken. We've been to many N.E/BBD shows, and this would be the first one with Bobby. As we were sitting in traffic waiting to park, we learned, via Ricky Bells twitter account, that Bobby was going to be attending the show. Our reaction? We started jumping up and down and screaming in the car like we were 12 years old and got a pen pal letter from him out of Right On! magazine or something.
We had great seats. Our seats were on the left side of the stage, third row up from bottom. But as soon as the lights dropped there was nothing between us and N.E but a security guard. We were front row and screaming every note to every song. We started planning our "front-row run route" as soon as we took our seats.
Ronnie was amazing, Bobby was amazing, Ricky was amazing, Ralph was amazing, Johnny was amazing, and Mike, well, he's always ultra amazing *wink*.
These boys are great. Oh, did I mention my sing-a-long with Johnny while he was singing his new solo. Yup, he was about two inches from my face. He sang, then I sang (i can't sing), then he sang again. This is when we discovered the "Johnny Eyes." It's like Andy Cohen talking about the Ramona eyes from Real Housewives of New York. Ramona aint' got nothin on Johnny Gill. This was a fantabulous concert. Go. Run. And then Run Again! The boys still got it. They haven't given a bad show yet. The only thing that would've made it better is if Stacy Lattisaw would've came out and sang Perfect Combination with Johnny Gill.
As you know, concert pictures always seem to come out blurry. As always, my cell was dead, but here are some pics that Brown Suga took.
This was after Bobbys words about Whitney and the guys sang Home Again
G-Peezy took some great videos. I'll see if I can get them linked to Blushblogs facebook page within the next couple of days.
Have you guys gone to this concert? What did you think? What group makes you turn into a 12 year old screaming girl again?
